Add a commentIf you're sick of planned obsolescence and paying around 70 quid for Windows whether you wanted it or not, build your own / buy second hand / buy a computer with no OS installed online and use GNU/Linux (not Ubuntu though, it's just Debian with build in adware/spyware from Canonical).
Don't know about Win8 but when I used Win7 Ultimate I could install my own graphics drivers, though it did install its own and sometimes re-install its own with updates.
Remember, if you're not allowed to modify it (even if you have the skill to reverse engineer it and do so) it isn't yours, you don't own it, i.e. proprietary software is user subjugating, it controls the user instead of the other way around like it should be.
If you go GNU/Linux you will have to make some sacrifices and learn a lot, but at least you're in control of it. Unless you're so addicted to games that you'll accept the shackles of proprietary software willingly...
